Mercedez Benz issued a recall recently of a massive number of SUVs from model years 2012 to 2020. This recall number 22V-955 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will include 320,000 vehicles. However, Mercedez says that their estimate says about 1% of recalled vehicles will have the defect.

The reason for this recall is a water leak from built-up water in the spare tire well that might damage the fuel pump control unit when in contact. If this happens the vehicle will stall. The brand is asking owners to look out for damp carpet near the trunk and water sloshing sound.

If there is water accumulated in the spare tire well, a mechanic will use a drain plug and check for the fuel pump control unit. If the control unit is damaged by water, it will be replaced. Officially Mercedez will send out a notice to owners by mail before February 21, 2023.
