G-force in F1 is the amount of force drivers feel due to rapid acceleration during high-speed corners. Sometimes drivers go up to 6G force and they feel force six times their body weight. G force is felt when changing direction, braking, and cornering.
This high G force puts immense pressure on drivers’ bodies and during a race, they lose a significant amount of weight. Lewis Hamilton in 2022 spa, was in a crash where he felt 45Gs. Thankfully he was safe and unharmed after the clash.
Long ago when safety features were not this advanced, drivers lost their lives after a high G clash. Jules Bianchi lost his life following a crash of 254Gs. Nowadays there is Halo to ensure drivers’ safety.
