For American viewers, the most important schedule difference is the five-hour gap between British Summer Time and U.S. Eastern Time during this weekend. Therefore, the first BTCC race arrives early on Sunday morning in the United States.

Race 1 begins at 6:45 a.m. ET. Race 2 follows at 9:45 a.m. ET, while Race 3 begins at 12:30 p.m. ET. RACER Network is the live home of BTCC in the United States and Canada.

The weekend is also a major championship checkpoint. Ashley Sutton arrives as the championship leader, while reigning champion Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish lead the chasing group. The longer Donington GP layout creates a different challenge from the National configuration used for the season opener in April.

Saturday is no longer just practice and qualifying

The 2026 format gives Saturday a genuine race. After Free Practice, the field is divided into two qualifying groups based on practice finishing positions.

Each group receives a 15-minute qualifying segment. The group that produces the fastest time takes the odd-numbered positions for the Qualifying Race grid, while the other group fills the even-numbered places.

Fifteen minutes after the qualifying block ends, the pit lane opens. The nine-lap Race for Pole then starts at 3:05 p.m. BST, or 10:05 a.m. ET.

The result matters twice. Drivers earn half points in the Qualifying Race, and the finishing order sets the Race 1 grid. That makes Saturday relevant to both the championship and Sunday track position.

The full event is much larger than the three Sunday touring-car races. Donington also hosts the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, MINI CHALLENGE Trophy and Caterham Seven Championship UK.

Public opening time is listed as 7:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Fans attending in person should therefore have plenty of time to reach viewing areas before the first on-track activity.

Saturday, August 22 — full track timetable

The first BTCC appearance comes at 11:00 a.m. BST with Free Practice. That 50-minute session is especially valuable because the new Saturday format uses practice results to divide the field into qualifying groups.

After the lunch break, the touring cars return at 2:05 p.m. BST. Qualifying runs until 2:40 p.m., with the pit lane opening at 2:50 p.m. The Race for Pole follows at 3:05 p.m.

The rest of Saturday remains active. F4, MINI and Caterham all race after the BTCC Qualifying Race, while Porsche Carrera Cup GB closes the timetable with its second qualifying session.

Sunday, August 23 — full track timetable

Sunday begins with support racing before the BTCC pit lane opens at 11:30 a.m. BST. Race 1 starts 15 minutes later and covers 14 laps of the Grand Prix circuit.

The schedule then alternates support races and touring-car action. Race 2 begins at 2:45 p.m. BST. Race 3 closes the headline programme at 5:30 p.m. BST.

A pit lane walkabout and autograph session is scheduled from 1:05 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. BST. That sits inside the broader lunch interval and gives fans at the circuit a direct opportunity to see the BTCC paddock up close.

Because the timetable is dense, even a small delay can compress the gaps later in the day. However, the official published start times above are the correct planning baseline for the weekend.

The BTCC’s 2026 broadcast plan is unusually broad for a domestic touring-car series. The exact platform depends on where you are watching.

UK TV coverage: ITV4 and ITVX

ITV remains the long-term broadcast home of the BTCC in Britain. For Donington Park GP, Sunday’s live window runs from 11:00 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. BST.

That window comfortably covers all three BTCC races. It also incorporates substantial support-series coverage, which is one reason the championship promotes its Sunday broadcast as an all-day motorsport package.

ITVX provides the streaming option for UK viewers. In addition, the official BTCC TV guide lists on-demand race access through ITVX.

Saturday qualifying and Race for Pole coverage

Saturday’s competitive format is streamed separately. The official schedule lists live qualifying and Qualifying Race coverage from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. BST.

That broadcast begins five minutes before the on-track qualifying block. It then carries through the pit-lane transition and the nine-lap Race for Pole.

For a U.S. audience, the equivalent North American window is 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. ET on RACER Network. Therefore, American fans can follow the grid-setting race without waiting for Sunday.

United States and Canada: RACER Network

RACER Network continues its multi-year BTCC agreement for the U.S. and Canada. All 30 championship races are scheduled to air on the main RACER channel.

Support-series coverage and extended BTCC highlights are also available through RACER+. For Donington, the headline race start times are 6:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. ET.

Those times make Donington a morning-to-lunchtime event for East Coast viewers. On the U.S. West Coast, the starts are three hours earlier, so Race 1 arrives before dawn.

International streaming outside the UK and North America

The BTCC YouTube channel carries the full Sunday race day around the world, except in territories covered by the UK and North American arrangements. The Donington stream is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. BST.

This includes the support races, not only the three BTCC rounds. That makes the global stream useful for viewers who want the complete Donington Park event rather than isolated touring-car sessions.

Highlights and on-demand viewing

The UK highlights show is listed on ITV4 for Friday, August 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. BST. ITVX also provides a route to catch race content after the live broadcast.

In North America, RACER and RACER+ provide live and on-demand access under the championship’s current agreement. Exact app availability can depend on the viewer’s subscription and device platform.

The biggest schedule change in 2026 is the Qualifying Race. The BTCC introduced it for every championship meeting, adding a short Saturday race that awards points and determines Sunday’s opening grid.

Step 1: one Free Practice session

Donington GP Free Practice runs from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. BST. The session does more than help drivers tune their cars.

The practice finishing order determines how the field is split into qualifying groups. Odd and even finishing positions are separated, creating two groups for the timed qualifying phase.

Step 2: two 15-minute qualifying groups

Each group gets 15 minutes to set its times. The group that produces the fastest outright lap earns the odd-numbered grid slots for the Qualifying Race.

The other group takes the even-numbered positions. This means the fastest driver in the quicker group starts first, while the fastest driver in the other group starts second.

The system rewards a strong individual lap while also linking every driver’s grid position to the relative pace of the two groups. It creates a different tactical problem from the multi-stage knockout systems used elsewhere.

Step 3: the nine-lap Race for Pole

At Donington GP, the Saturday race covers nine laps. Points are awarded at half value, with the top 15 scoring on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-5-4-4-3-3-2-2-1-1 scale.

More importantly for Sunday, the finishing order sets the Race 1 grid. A driver who qualifies well but has a poor Race for Pole can therefore lose the front-row position before Sunday even begins.

Conversely, a driver who races forward on Saturday earns both points and a better Sunday start. That makes the short race one of the most valuable 15-minute windows of the entire weekend.

Step 4: three equal-distance Sunday championship races

Sunday features the familiar three-race BTCC programme. At Donington GP, each race covers 14 laps of the 2.49-mile circuit.

The standard Sunday points scale awards 20 points for a win, then 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 through 15th place. Bonus points are also available under the championship rules.

Race 3 retains the reverse-grid element that has long been part of BTCC race day. Therefore, the final race can produce a very different competitive picture from the first two.

Why the GP layout changes the challenge

Donington’s Grand Prix circuit is 2.49 miles long and contains 12 corners. It adds the Melbourne Hairpin and Goddards section to the faster National-loop character.

That longer lap changes both setup and racing rhythm. Drivers still need confidence through Redgate, Hollywood and the Craner Curves, but the slower Grand Prix section adds heavy braking and traction demands.

The official qualifying lap record is 1 minute 33.154 seconds, set by Ashley Sutton in 2023. Tom Ingram holds the race lap record at 1 minute 33.621 seconds from 2025.

Those records illustrate the scale of the GP configuration. The lap is roughly 25 seconds longer than the National circuit used by the BTCC at the season opener.

Ashley Sutton arrives at Donington Park GP with the championship lead. The official standings list the NAPA Racing UK driver on 327 points after the first six events.

Tom Ingram is second on 246 points, while Dan Cammish sits third on 233. Sutton has already won seven races in 2026, giving him the strongest victory total in the field at this stage.

Sutton has margin, but Donington offers a lot of points

Sutton’s lead over Ingram is 81 points before the weekend. That is significant, but the new Qualifying Race adds more scoring opportunities than the old Saturday format.

Every mistake can therefore cost points before Sunday begins. Three full races then follow, making Donington a weekend where the championship gap can move quickly.

Knockhill delivered three different winners

The previous event at Knockhill produced three different Sunday winners. Adam Morgan won the opening race, Sutton took Race 2 and Tom Chilton claimed Race 3.

Chilton’s victory made him the 10th different winner of the 2026 season. That spread of winners shows why the Donington timetable matters to more than the championship leader.

Ingram returns as the GP circuit race-lap record holder

Ingram is not only Sutton’s closest points rival. He also holds the current Donington GP BTCC race lap record at 1:33.621, set in 2025.

That does not guarantee a result in 2026, but it confirms proven pace around the longer configuration. Team VERTU will need that speed if it wants to reduce Sutton’s championship advantage.

Cammish remains close enough to pressure second place

Cammish is only 13 points behind Ingram. Therefore, the battle for second in the standings is much tighter than the gap to Sutton.

A strong Saturday could immediately reshape that order. The Race for Pole points are smaller than Sunday’s awards, yet they can still matter when two title rivals are separated by little more than a dozen points.

The Donington Park Grand Prix layout mixes two very different types of touring-car challenge. The first half is fast, flowing and confidence-heavy. The later GP loop asks more from braking stability and traction.

Redgate and the Craner Curves set the opening rhythm

Redgate is the first major braking zone and a natural first-lap pressure point. Cars then descend through Hollywood and the Craner Curves, one of the circuit’s signature sequences.

In qualifying, a mistake here can ruin the lap before the slower GP section. In racing, the downhill sequence punishes drivers who lose momentum while defending.

The GP loop creates overtaking opportunities

The Melbourne Hairpin gives drivers a heavy braking zone after a long acceleration phase. Touring cars can race side-by-side there, although contact risk rises when several cars arrive together.

Goddards then completes the lap and determines the run back toward the timing line. A clean exit matters when a driver is trying to build a passing opportunity into Redgate.

Why the circuit suits a full-day TV package

Donington is compact enough for spectators to see several important sections from accessible viewing areas. At the same time, the GP loop provides enough variation to create different race phases.

That helps the support package as well. F4 cars attack the high-speed sections differently from touring cars, while Porsche and Caterham races bring their own braking and slipstream patterns.

Saturday: watch qualifying before the grid-setting race

For a complete understanding of Sunday’s starting order, do not skip Saturday. The key viewing window begins at 2:00 p.m. BST in the UK and 9:00 a.m. ET in North America.

Qualifying itself starts five minutes later. The Qualifying Race then begins at 3:05 p.m. BST, so the entire grid-setting sequence fits inside the published broadcast window.

Sunday: join before Race 1 rather than at green flag

UK coverage begins at 11:00 a.m. BST, 45 minutes before Race 1. That allows time for grid reports, interviews and pre-race context.

U.S. viewers should plan for a 6:45 a.m. ET Race 1. Because the next BTCC race is not until 9:45 a.m. ET, there is a three-hour window filled with support racing and paddock coverage.

Use the gaps to follow support racing

The support programme is not filler. F4, Porsche Carrera Cup, MINI CHALLENGE and Caterham all race on Sunday, giving viewers continuous track action between the BTCC rounds.

For international viewers outside the UK and North America, the full BTCC YouTube race-day stream makes those support races especially easy to follow. The stream is scheduled to run for the same 11:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. BST window as the main UK coverage.

Expect Race 3 to feel different

Race 3 is the late-afternoon finale and features the championship’s reverse-grid element. That can put drivers who struggled earlier into stronger starting positions.

As a result, the final race often produces a different set of tactical problems. Leaders must recover through traffic, while midfield drivers get a rare chance to defend track position against faster cars.
