Nikola Tsolov wins both races, takes the championship lead and becomes the first driver in FIA Formula 2 history to claim three consecutive victories. Full Sprint and Feature classifications, strategy, fastest laps and standings.

Tsolov sweeps the weekend. Full Feature and Sprint classifications, race analysis and updated championship standings.
Nikola Tsolov won both Formula 2 races at Silverstone in 2026, turning the British Grand Prix support weekend into the most important result of his championship campaign. The Campos Racing driver passed Gabriele Minรฌ on the final lap of Saturdayโs Sprint, then defeated Rafael Villagรณmez and Kush Maini in Sundayโs Feature Race.
The weekend was more than a double victory. Tsolov became the first driver in FIA Formula 2 history to win three consecutive races, following his Spielberg Feature Race success with two Silverstone wins. He left Britain on 141 points, 17 ahead of Minรฌ, after arriving two points behind the MP Motorsport driver.
Silverstone also produced two completely different contests. The Sprint was a tyre-management duel settled by Minรฌโs final-lap lock-up and Tsolovโs DRS pass. The Feature Race was a strategic race between the conventional soft-to-hard plan and an alternative hard-to-soft approach that carried Villagรณmez from the front of the long first stint to second place.
This report uses the official FIA Formula 2 classifications and championship tables. It includes every driver in both races, the qualifying order that shaped the grids, the crucial overtakes, fastest laps, retirements and the championship implications heading to Spa-Francorchamps.
Who Won the Silverstone F2 Races in 2026?
Nikola Tsolov completed a clean Silverstone double.
Tsolov won Saturdayโs 21-lap Sprint Race in 41:04.635, beating Gabriele Minรฌ by 1.291 seconds. He then won Sundayโs 29-lap Feature Race in 51:22.101, finishing 3.233 seconds ahead of Rafael Villagรณmez.
The results moved the Bulgarian from second to first in the Driversโ Championship and made him the first Formula 2 driver to win three races in succession.
The double was not built on pole position or complete weekend domination from the first session. Tsolov qualified fifth, 0.282 seconds behind Rafael Cรขmara. That put him sixth on the reversed Sprint grid and fifth for the Feature Race. He therefore had to pass cars in both contests and manage two different strategic problems.
In the Sprint, he progressed from sixth to third on the opening lap, passed Villagรณmez at Stowe on lap nine and spent the closing phase pressuring Minรฌ. The winning move came only after Minรฌ locked a front tyre into The Loop on the final lap. Tsolov carried the stronger exit onto the Wellington Straight and completed the overtake with DRS.
The Feature Race demanded greater patience. Tsolov started on the soft tyre, stopped early for the hard compound and spent much of the race behind Maini. He tried the outside at Stowe and the inside at Vale before making the decisive move through the high-speed Maggots-Becketts sequence on lap 20.

Tsolovโs weekend score was 35 points: 10 for the Sprint victory and 25 for the Feature Race win. He did not need pole or fastest-lap bonuses to produce the championshipโs biggest individual Silverstone total. His ability to win from the third row in both races was the more significant message for the title fight.
The build-up to the weekend is covered in the Silverstone Formula 2 weekend guide, the F2 Silverstone preview, the qualifying results and the pre-race strategy analysis.

Noel Leรณn set the quickest lap of the Feature Race, a 1:43.021 on lap 27. Because he finished seventh, the Campos driver was eligible for the fastest-lap championship point.
Maini won the start, but not the strategic race
Polesitter Cรขmara and front-row starter Dunne both made slow getaways. Maini launched from third into the lead, while Tsolov jumped from fifth to second. Cรขmara initially held third after fighting Dunne, but Invicta instructed him to return the position because he had completed the move with all four wheels beyond the track at Turn 4.
Maini immediately opened a gap. By the start of lap four, the ART driver was 2.1 seconds clear of Tsolov. The leading group had started on the soft tyre, however, and the harder compound was already producing competitive lap times for the alternative-strategy drivers.
Cรขmara reported that his soft tyres were fading and asked Invicta to stop early. On lap six, Maini, Tsolov, Dunne, Cรขmara, Miyata, Bilinski, Varrone, Montoya and Fittipaldi all came in for hard tyres. That stop transformed Villagรณmez into the on-track leader and placed the conventional-strategy runners behind a long train of cars yet to pit.

Tsolovโs pass through Maggots and Becketts
Tsolov had reduced Mainiโs advantage near the end of the soft stint, but dropped beyond DRS range on lap 10 after the pit cycle. He rebuilt the pressure over the next ten laps. Maini defended the outside line at Stowe and the inside at Vale, forcing Tsolov to search for a less conventional passing opportunity.
The successful move came in the fastest part of the circuit. Tsolov attacked through the opening sectors of lap 20 and completed a brave pass in the Maggots-Becketts complex. It was not a standard DRS move at the end of a straight. It required commitment, accurate positioning and enough trust in the carโs aerodynamic balance to run alongside another Formula 2 machine through a high-speed sequence.
Once clear, Tsolov created the margin he needed before the alternative-strategy cars changed tyres. Minรฌ stopped on lap 23, Dรผrksen on lap 24 and Villagรณmez on lap 25. Villagรณmez emerged on fresh soft tyres behind Cรขmara but with four laps to recover the podium places.
Villagรณmez made the hard-to-soft strategy work
Villagรณmezโs final stint was the most aggressive phase of the Feature Race. After bringing the tyres into their operating window, he passed Cรขmara at Stowe. He then overtook Dunne down the Wellington Straight on lap 27 to reach third.
Maini still occupied second, but the ART driver had been on hard tyres since lap six. Villagรณmez attacked at Village on the penultimate lap and completed the pass. He finished 3.233 seconds behind Tsolov and 4.648 seconds ahead of Maini.
The result was Villagรณmezโs third podium in four races and his second of the Silverstone weekend. His alternative strategy did not challenge Tsolov for the victory because the pit stop came too late to erase the Bulgarianโs track position, but it provided enough late pace to beat every conventional-strategy rival except the winner.
Cรขmaraโs pole did not become a podium
Cรขmara entered Sunday from the strongest grid position but finished fifth. The poor start immediately placed him behind Maini, Tsolov and Dunne. He then had to return third place after leaving the circuit during his battle with Dunne. The early soft-tyre stop preserved the race, but did not create a large enough performance offset to recover the lost positions.
Minรฌ finished sixth after starting 10th and running the alternative strategy. That recovery delivered eight championship points, yet it was not enough to prevent Tsolov taking a clear championship lead. Leรณn finished seventh and added the fastest-lap point, with Bilinski, Dรผrksen and Inthraphuvasak completing the top 10.
Silverstone F2 2026 Sprint Race Results and Classification
The reversed top-10 grid placed Minรฌ on pole and Miyata alongside him. Tsolov started sixth. The race was interrupted by one Safety Car after Bennett and Montoya retired on the opening lap.

Cian Shields recorded the overall fastest Sprint lap, a 1:44.533 on lap nine, but finished 19th. Maini was the fastest driver among the leading finishers with a 1:44.877.
Minรฌ led, Tsolov climbed and the Safety Car reset the field
Minรฌ made the start he needed and retained the lead into the first corners. Miyataโs launch was poor, and he fell to fifth behind Villagรณmez, Tsolov and Dรผrksen by the end of lap one. Maini then passed Miyata around the outside at The Loop early on lap two.
The race was neutralised moments later. Bennett stopped on the main straight after an incident involving Montoya and Herta, and the Safety Car remained out until the track was cleared. Racing resumed on lap seven with Minรฌ still leading.
Tsolov had already gained three positions before the interruption. On lap nine he passed Villagรณmez around the outside at Stowe to move into second. MP Motorsport immediately told Minรฌ to increase the pace because his principal championship rival was now directly behind.
The title rivals fought until the final lap
The gap fell steadily through the second half of the race. Tsolov was 0.7 seconds behind at the start of lap 15 and attempted a move on lap 16. The two ran wheel-to-wheel through Stowe, where Minรฌ defended successfully.
Maini had spent much of the race behind Dรผrksen before passing at Brooklands for fourth. Inthraphuvasak later went around the outside of Dรผrksen at Luffield, and Beganovic followed with an inside move at Vale. The Paraguay-born Invicta driverโs declining pace allowed Bilinski to take seventh, leaving Dรผrksen eighth and in the final points position.
At the front, Tsolov began the penultimate lap only 0.4 seconds behind. Minรฌ again positioned the car correctly and appeared set to defend the victory. The decisive error came at the beginning of the final tour, when the MP driver locked up entering The Loop.
Tsolov placed his car for the stronger exit, stayed within DRS range and passed down the Wellington Straight. He won by 1.291 seconds. Minรฌ protected second from Villagรณmez, while Maini and Inthraphuvasak gave ART fourth and fifth.
The Sprint was decided by one small lock-up after 20 laps of pressure. Tsolov created the opportunity by remaining close enough to punish the first mistake.
The Safety Carโs effect on tyre temperature and restart positioning is explained in what a Safety Car does. The flag sequence is covered in our racing-flags guide.
Silverstone F2 Qualifying: Cรขmara Takes Pole
Cรขmara secured Feature Race pole with a 1:39.690 lap at an average speed of 212.735 km/h. Dunne was second, 0.201 seconds behind, while Maini missed the front row by only 0.001 seconds.
| Pos | Driver | Team | Time | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rafael Cรขmara | Invicta Racing | 1:39.690 | Pole |
| 2 | Alexander Dunne | Rodin Motorsport | 1:39.891 | +0.201 |
| 3 | Kush Maini | ART Grand Prix | 1:39.892 | +0.202 |

| 9 | Ritomo Miyata | Hitech TGR | 1:40.362 | +0.672 |
| 10 | Gabriele Minรฌ | MP Motorsport | 1:40.382 | +0.692 |
The top-10 reversal placed Minรฌ first for the Sprint, Miyata second and Villagรณmez third. Tsolov moved from fifth in qualifying to sixth on the Sprint grid. That format rewarded his ability to pass rather than giving him a front-row route to victory.
For readers unfamiliar with grid-setting sessions, the qualifying format explainer, grid-position guide and pole-position explainer cover the essential concepts.
Silverstone F2 Strategy Analysis
The Feature Race was defined by a clear strategic split. The majority of the leading qualifiers started on soft tyres and stopped around lap six. Villagรณmez, Dรผrksen and Minรฌ remained on the hard compound, extending deep into the race before switching to fresh soft tyres.
Soft to hard
Maini, Tsolov, Dunne and Cรขmara used early grip to build position, then managed the hard tyre for more than 20 laps.
Hard to soft
Villagรณmez delayed his stop until lap 25 and used the soft tyreโs late grip to climb from behind Cรขmara to second.
Track position
Tsolov passed Maini before the alternate runners stopped, creating enough margin to stay ahead of Villagรณmezโs recovery.
Why the soft starters stopped so early
Silverstoneโs high-speed corners generate heavy energy through the tyres. The loaded outside tyres must survive long periods of lateral force through Copse, Maggots, Becketts and Stowe. The soft tyre offered launch grip and early-lap speed, but its performance fell quickly once the surface overheated.
Cรขmaraโs radio request for an early stop reflected that loss. The teams did not wait for a dramatic lap-time collapse. They acted when the hard-tyre runners began producing comparable pace and before a slow soft-tyre lap exposed the drivers to an undercut.
Why Villagรณmezโs strategy reached second but not first
The alternative plan delivered a large performance difference at the end. Villagรณmez passed three cars in the final laps and produced the second-fastest lap of the race. The limitation was timing. He rejoined behind Cรขmara after the lap-25 stop and needed time to warm the soft tyres.
Tsolov had already passed Maini and opened the decisive margin. Villagรณmez could attack the worn-hard runners, but he could not recover the entire gap to a leader who was also lapping consistently.
Silverstoneโs overtaking pattern
The race demonstrated three distinct overtaking methods. Tsolov passed Maini through a high-speed sequence where aerodynamic confidence mattered. Villagรณmez used the traction and DRS opportunities around Stowe and the Wellington Straight. In the Sprint, Tsolov converted Minรฌโs small error at The Loop into a DRS pass.
The technical forces behind those moves are explained in what downforce is, how slipstreaming works and how pit-stop strategy works.
Formula 2 Championship Standings After Silverstone
Tsolov arrived at Silverstone two points behind Minรฌ and left with a 17-point lead. His 35-point weekend created a 19-point swing over his title rival, who scored 16 through second in the Sprint and sixth in the Feature Race.

Tsolov changes the championshipโs centre of gravity
The title fight had been defined by consistency from Minรฌ and a growing victory count from Tsolov. Silverstone moved the balance decisively toward the Campos driver. Six wins in seven rounds give him a larger margin for occasional difficult weekends, while Minรฌโs eight podiums remain his strongest defence.
A 17-point lead is not decisive in Formula 2. One Feature Race retirement can erase most of it, and every weekend offers Sprint, Feature, pole and fastest-lap points. The significance is psychological and strategic: Minรฌ is now the chaser, and Tsolov can make decisions from the lead rather than attempting to recover a deficit.
Villagรณmez produced the biggest midfield leap
Villagรณmez scored 24 points through third in the Sprint and second in the Feature Race. That single weekend carried him to 30 points and 10th in the championship. The performance also gave Van Amersfoort Racing evidence that its alternative-strategy pace was genuine rather than the product of a single fortunate interruption.
Campos extends the Teamsโ Championship lead
Tsolovโs 35 points and Leรณnโs seven from the Feature Race pushed Campos to 210. MP remains second on 152, while Rodin sits third on 140. The 58-point advantage is substantial because it is larger than the maximum score available to one driver in a normal weekend.
Formula 2 uses a Teamsโ Championship rather than the Formula 1 label โConstructorsโ Championship,โ but the principle is similar: both cars contribute to the organisationโs total. Our championship-scoring explainer covers the broader logic.
Driver and Team Performance Analysis
Campos Racing: the complete Silverstone package
Campos won both races with Tsolov and added Leรณnโs Feature Race fastest lap. The most impressive element was adaptability. The Sprint required short-run tyre control and a last-lap overtake. The Feature required an early stop, a long hard-tyre stint and a pass through Silverstoneโs fastest corners.
The team also managed the championship context correctly. Tsolov attacked Minรฌ without creating unnecessary contact in the Sprint and remained patient behind Maini in the Feature. Campos left with the lead in both championships because it converted pace into complete results.
Van Amersfoort Racing: Villagรณmez turns strategy into two podiums
Villagรณmez was one of the weekendโs most effective drivers. Third in the Sprint came from a strong opening lap and controlled defence. Second in the Feature required a long hard-tyre stint and three late overtakes on soft tyres.
His best Feature lap, 1:43.048, was only 0.027 seconds slower than Leรณnโs overall fastest time. That pace supports the conclusion that the podium was earned through execution rather than inherited through retirements.
ART Grand Prix: Maini leads and scores heavily
Maini made the best Feature Race start and led the opening stint. He could not hold Tsolov on the long hard-tyre run and later lost second to Villagรณmezโs fresh softs, but third remained an important result. Combined with fourth in the Sprint, he scored 20 points and climbed to sixth in the championship.
Inthraphuvasak contributed fifth in the Sprint and 10th in the Feature. ARTโs weekend total moved the team to 91 points, keeping it inside the top five.
Invicta Racing: pole position without the expected reward
Cรขmara took pole and Dรผrksen qualified seventh, but neither race produced a podium. Cรขmaraโs poor Feature start and compulsory position return limited him to fifth. Dรผrksen scored the final Sprint point and finished ninth on Sunday.
The car had speed: Villagรณmez passed Cรขmara only after fitting fresh softs, and Dรผrksen recorded a 1:43.480 late in the Feature. The problem was converting qualifying performance and strategy into the same result total as Campos or ART.
Rodin Motorsport: Dunne close to the podium, Stenshorne sidelined
Dunne finished fourth in the Feature after starting second. He recovered from the slow launch and remained ahead of Cรขmara, but could not resist Villagรณmezโs late soft-tyre attack. Stenshorne completed the Sprint but did not start the Feature, leaving Rodin dependent on Dunneโs 12 points.
The weekend demonstrated why Formula 2 rewards clean conversion. Rodin had a front-row starter and a top-three championship contender, yet Campos scored almost three times as many points.
What Comes Next After Silverstone?
The championship resumes at Spa-Francorchamps from July 17 to 19. Spa places a different demand on the cars: long full-throttle sections, heavy braking at Les Combes and the Bus Stop, variable weather and a lap length that magnifies the cost of mistakes.
Tsolov arrives as the championship leader and the winner of three consecutive races. Minรฌ must respond without abandoning the consistency that built his early lead. Cรขmara and Dunne remain separated by only two points in the fight for third, while Villagรณmez carries the confidence of consecutive podiums.
Silverstone rewarded high-speed balance and tyre management. Spa will add weather risk and longer strategic gaps. A Safety Car or rain shower can change a Formula 2 race before a driver completes the compulsory stop, making pit timing even more important.
Silverstone F2 2026 Results FAQ
Conclusion: Tsolov Turns Silverstone Into a Championship Statement
A double built on passing, not grid position
Tsolovโs Silverstone weekend was stronger than a simple results sheet suggests. He started sixth in the Sprint and fifth in the Feature Race. Neither victory came from defending pole position. Both required him to close a gap, identify the rivalโs weakness and complete a difficult pass.
The Sprint victory came from sustained pressure and a final-lap reaction to Minรฌโs lock-up. The Feature Race came from a long hard-tyre stint and a high-speed overtake on Maini. Those are different racing skills, and producing both in one weekend explains why the championship lead now belongs to Tsolov.
Villagรณmez and Maini also left Silverstone with major gains. Villagรณmez scored two podiums and Maini led the Feature Race before finishing third. Cรขmaraโs pole and Dunneโs fourth kept both drivers close in the standings, while Minรฌ limited the damage with two points-scoring finishes.
The next round at Spa will show whether Silverstone marked a permanent shift in the title fight or the high point of Tsolovโs mid-season run. What is already settled is the historical record: no Formula 2 driver before him had won three races in succession.
