Thursday Schedule: PRO Practice, PROSPEC Seeding and PRO Qualifying

Thursday is the longest technical day. Teams begin learning the new Indianapolis course before the competitive sessions arrive.

PRO warmup overlaps the end of the listed seeding window from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Event operations may divide track activity or adjust the handover.

PRO qualifying begins at 8:00 p.m. ET under the latest Formula DRIFT timetable. Each driver receives two solo scoring attempts.

Friday Schedule: Complete Link ECU PROSPEC Main Event

Friday belongs to the PROSPEC championship. Warmup starts at noon, while the Top 32 begins at 2:00 p.m. ET.

The afternoon block runs until 5:00 p.m. A two-hour halftime then separates the Top 32 from the evening finals.

The RACER Grid Walk show begins at 2:00 p.m. ET. This is a broadcast feature and should not be confused with the paid on-track Track Walk Experience at 6:30 p.m.

PRO Top 32 runs from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Drivers complete a lead run and chase run in each matchup.

The judges select one winner unless the evidence remains too close. In that case, they can call One More Time and repeat the battle.

The halftime break runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Fans with the Track Walk add-on assemble for the 6:30 p.m. experience.

Small personal coolers are permitted up to 12 by 12 by 12 inches, but staff may inspect them. Alcohol, glass bottles, fireworks and canopies are prohibited.

Why Formula DRIFT Built a New Indianapolis Course

Formula DRIFT did not simply place cones on the existing oval. The series worked with track officials to add pavement and create a dedicated drifting route.

The development group included driver liaisons Ryan Litteral, Ken Gushi and Matt Field. Judges and the competition department also contributed.

Simulation testing helped the group evaluate the ideal line before construction. Site visits then turned the concept into a real competition surface.

The goal was to create a layout that supports close tandem battles. Therefore, the course needs fast initiation, clear clipping zones and enough width for a committed chase car.

New asphalt can change grip across a single run. Drivers may encounter different surface texture, temperature and rubber buildup between zones.

That makes setup work difficult. Teams must tune steering response, differential lock, rear grip and power delivery without old Indianapolis data.

What drivers need from the car

Professional drift cars need predictable torque, not only a large horsepower number. The driver must modulate wheel speed while holding angle.

Steering geometry also matters. A wide steering angle allows the car to survive aggressive initiation and recover from proximity corrections.

The limited-slip differential controls how the rear wheels share torque. Meanwhile, suspension balance determines how quickly weight transfers during transitions.

How Formula Drift Qualifying and Tandem Competition Work

Formula DRIFT is a judged motorsport. The winner is not the driver with the shortest elapsed time.

Instead, competitors are evaluated on line, angle, style and tandem performance. Each battle contains a lead run and a chase run.

PRO qualifying in 2026

The PRO Championship returned to two solo qualifying runs for 2026. The better valid score determines the driver’s position.

Formula DRIFT uses Race Data Labs’ UDSM system for the objective scoring categories. Approximately 80 percent of the qualifying score comes from measured line and angle.

The three judges award the remaining style component. They consider commitment, transitions, stability and degree of difficulty.

Reverse championship order sets the qualifying running order. Therefore, the points leader normally runs near the end.

PROSPEC seeding

PROSPEC keeps tandem seeding. Lower-ranked drivers battle for open Top 32 positions rather than completing solo runs.

The higher-seeded driver normally leads first. The drivers then switch positions for the second run.

Contact does not automatically decide the battle. Judges assess which driver caused the incident and whether the chase car had a reasonable opportunity to avoid it.
