Shanghai Formula E 2026 Race Results: Winner, Podium and Full Classification
Lucas di Grassi wins Round 13 on the final lap, Pascal Wehrlein dominates Round 12, and the championship lead changes hands. Both full classifications, fastest laps, penalties and standings.

Full Round 12 and Round 13 classifications, podiums, fastest laps and championship implications.
Lucas di Grassi won the latest Shanghai Formula E race in 2026, passing Jean-รric Vergne at Turn 1 on the final lap of Round 13. The Brazilian completed a remarkable recovery from the back rows of the grid and gave Lola Yamaha ABT its first Formula E victory under the Lola name.
The Sunday result completed a Shanghai double-header with two very different winners. Pascal Wehrlein controlled Saturdayโs Round 12 from pole after timing PIT BOOST before heavy rain, then finished fourth on Sunday to leave China at the top of the Driversโ World Championship.
Shanghaiโs weather shaped both races. Round 12 began in the dry before rain forced a Safety Car on lap 19. Round 13 began behind the Safety Car on a wet circuit, but the track dried quickly enough to reward di Grassi, Vergne and Joel Eriksson for choosing dry-oriented setups.
This report uses the FIAโs final classifications and championship documents, not provisional timing. It covers all 20 entries in each race, the podium finishers, pole positions, fastest laps, penalties, ATTACK MODE decisions, PIT BOOST timing and the championship picture with four races remaining.
Who Won the Shanghai Formula E 2026 Races?
Lucas di Grassi won the latest race; Pascal Wehrlein won the opening race.
Round 12: Wehrlein won for Porsche by 1.633 seconds over Antรณnio Fรฉlix da Costa, with Jake Dennis third.
Round 13: Di Grassi won for Lola Yamaha ABT by 0.565 seconds over Jean-รric Vergne, with Joel Eriksson third.
The two victories represented opposite routes to the top step. Wehrlein started from pole, led the strategic contest and used Porscheโs execution to stay ahead through PIT BOOST and the rain interruption. Di Grassi started near the rear, trusted a drying-weather setup and saved his final ATTACK MODE for the closing laps.
Di Grassiโs victory was the more dramatic. A Full Course Yellow neutralised the ATTACK MODE advantage held by Eriksson and Vergne, while di Grassi still had his final activation available. He passed Eriksson at the hairpin on the penultimate lap and then swept around Vergne at Turn 1 on the final tour.
At 41 years and 328 days, di Grassi extended his record as Formula Eโs oldest race winner and became the championshipโs oldest podium finisher. It was his first victory since 2022 and Lola Yamaha ABTโs first win in its current form.

The weekend build-up and technical context are available in the Shanghai Formula E guide, the Shanghai E-Prix preview, the Shanghai strategy analysis and the qualifying report.
Shanghai E-Prix 2026 Round 13 Full Classification
The FIA final classification lists 18 finishers, one non-classified retirement and one driver who did not start. Drugovich received three pole-position points, while Rowland earned the fastest-lap point by finishing inside the top 10.

* Ticktum crossed the line ahead of Gรผnther on elapsed time but was classified 11th after a one-position stewardsโ penalty.
Fastest lap: Oliver Rowland, 1:10.945 on lap 27.
Pole position: Felipe Drugovich, his first Formula E pole.
Wet start, dry finish
The race began with several laps behind the Safety Car because the circuit remained wet after morning rain. Race Control then used a standing start, placing Drugovich at the head of the field with Barnard and Wehrlein immediately behind.
Several drivers activated ATTACK MODE early while the field was compressed. Barnard moved into the lead during the opening phase, but Wehrleinโs overlapping ATTACK MODE brought the Porsche driver to first by lap seven. Mรผller followed in second, allowing Porsche to manage energy and create a small gap.
The early order favoured cars set up for wet conditions. Drugovich, Wehrlein, Mรผller and the other front-running qualifiers had enough grip to control the first phase. The strategic picture changed as the racing line dried and drivers who had gambled on lower dry-weather pressures began to find speed.

Eriksson, Vergne and di Grassi charge from the rear
Eriksson used the improving surface and an energy advantage to pass Mรผller and Buemi around the outside at Turn 1. One lap later he passed Wehrlein and took the lead. The move placed Envision Racing at the front of its home event after the Swedish rookie had started near the back.
Vergne and di Grassi followed the same dry-setup path. By lap 23, the three drivers who had started in the rear group occupied the podium positions. Their cars moved more efficiently as the wet pressure advantage faded and the circuit approached dry conditions.
That reversal explains why the Round 13 result cannot be reduced to normal track position. The front runners had spent the first half controlling a wet race, but the late phase rewarded a setup decision made before the start. Once the circuit crossed the grip threshold, the dry-biased cars gained several tenths per sector.
Maloneyโs suspension failure creates the decisive FCY
Zane Maloney stopped on lap 24 with a suspension failure, requiring a Full Course Yellow. Eriksson and Vergne had already used ATTACK MODE, and the caution consumed part of their enhanced-power windows. Di Grassi had deliberately retained his final activation.
When green-flag racing resumed, Vergne passed Eriksson at the hairpin. Di Grassi attacked at the same corner and cleared the Envision driver on the penultimate lap. He then reached Vergne with one lap remaining.
The winning move came around the outside at Turn 1, Shanghaiโs long tightening right-hander. Di Grassi carried ATTACK MODEโs extra power and all-wheel-drive assistance into the braking and acceleration phase, held the wider line and completed the pass before the corner tightened.
Vergne finished only 0.565 seconds behind, earning Citroรซn Racingโs first podium of the season. Eriksson finished 2.903 seconds from the winner and secured the first podium of his Formula E career.

Evans does not start and loses the championship lead
Mitch Evans entered Shanghai as championship leader but did not reach the Round 13 grid. Jaguar discovered a technical issue and could not complete the repair before the start. The zero score was especially damaging because Wehrlein added 12 points in fourth.
Drugovich led four laps from pole but finished sixth as the dry-setup cars came through. His three pole points and eight race points gave him 11 for the day and moved him to 11th in the standings as the highest-placed rookie.
Shanghai E-Prix 2026 Round 12 Full Classification
All 20 starters were classified in Round 12. Wehrlein collected 28 points for victory and pole. Da Costa earned 19 because his 1:12.271 was the fastest lap among drivers finishing in the top 10.

Mortara set the overall fastest lap at 1:11.890 but finished 15th. Formula E awards the fastest-lap point only when the driver finishes inside the top 10, so da Costa earned the bonus with a 1:12.271.
Wehrlein converts pole into control
Wehrleinโs Saturday began with his 12th Formula E pole position. The Porsche driver beat Evans in the qualifying final and immediately gained three championship points. The front-row result placed the two title contenders together at the start.
The race developed around energy use and the mandatory PIT BOOST window. Wehrlein avoided unnecessary fighting in the opening phase, kept the Porsche efficient and timed the rapid charging stop before the heaviest rain arrived.
When the PIT BOOST cycle settled, Wehrlein emerged ahead. Da Costa remained close enough to challenge, while the Andretti pair of Dennis and Drugovich occupied the next positions. The approaching weather reduced the value of saved energy because wet conditions pushed the field closer to flat-out driving.

Rain forces a Safety Car on lap 19
Heavy rain reached a large section of the circuit around lap 19. The FIA deployed the Safety Car so drivers could adapt to the sudden grip reduction safely. The neutralisation erased much of the field spread and gave the podium contenders another chance at the restart.
Wehrlein responded by rebuilding the lead once racing resumed. Da Costa finished 1.633 seconds behind, while Dennis secured third. Andretti managed its final laps to place Dennis and Drugovich third and fourth, producing the strongest combined team result of the race.
De Vries delivered the largest recovery, climbing from 16th on the grid to fifth. Vergne finished sixth, Eriksson seventh and Evans eighth. The four points reduced Evansโ championship advantage from 19 points before the weekend to only three after Round 12.
PIT BOOST changed the timing, not the fundamentals
PIT BOOST adds a mandatory rapid-charging stop to selected Formula E races. The stop creates a conventional pit-lane timing problem inside a championship normally shaped by ATTACK MODE and energy saving.
Wehrleinโs team chose the right moment before the rain. A later stop would have exposed him to a wetter pit entry and a less predictable Safety Car window. An earlier stop could have returned him to traffic without enough energy or track position advantage.
The format is part of Formula Eโs wider strategic identity. New readers can use the Formula E race-weekend guide and the ATTACK MODE explainer to understand how the sporting tools differ.
Shanghai Formula E Strategy Analysis
The Shanghai weekend demonstrated why Formula E strategy cannot be reduced to a single battery target. Round 12 combined energy saving, PIT BOOST timing and a late rain interruption. Round 13 began as a wet race and ended as a dry-setup contest decided by ATTACK MODE.
PIT BOOST timing
Wehrlein completed the rapid-charging stop before heavy rain, preserved track position and controlled the restart.
Setup gamble
Di Grassi, Vergne and Eriksson accepted weaker wet grip for stronger pace as the circuit dried.
Saved ATTACK MODE
Di Grassi retained his final activation until after the Full Course Yellow and used it for the winning passes.
Why the weather gamble worked
Teams cannot transform a wet-biased setup into a dry-biased setup during the race. Tyre pressures, mechanical balance and energy targets are chosen before the start. A wet setup improves confidence and tyre temperature when standing water is present, but it can overheat or create drag once the surface dries.
Most teams expected continued rain and protected the opening phase. Lola Yamaha ABT, Citroรซn and Envision took more risk. Their cars were difficult during the early laps, yet the lack of further rain allowed the setup advantage to grow.
Di Grassiโs pace became decisive only when combined with ATTACK MODE timing. Eriksson and Vergne had activated before Maloney stopped. The Full Course Yellow fixed every car to a controlled speed, wasting seconds of their boost. Di Grassi activated after the neutralisation and gained the full competitive benefit.
Energy management changed after the track dried
Formula E drivers normally save energy by lifting before braking zones, using regenerative braking and taking advantage of the slipstream. Wet conditions reduce the ability to use saved energy because traction and visibility set the lap-time limit. As the circuit dried, energy efficiency returned to the centre of the race.
Eriksson reached the lead with energy in hand. Buemi also looked competitive because he had preserved more usable energy. Di Grassiโs final attack combined the setup advantage, the remaining energy and ATTACK MODEโs 50kW increase.
Shanghaiโs long Turn 1 rewarded the outside line
The Formula E layout uses a shortened section of Shanghai International Circuit but retains the distinctive long right-hand opening corner. A driver can attack on the outside if the extra power and grip allow the car to remain alongside through the tightening radius.
Di Grassiโs final-lap move was therefore more than a straight-line overtake. He had to judge the closing speed, carry the outer line and position the car before Vergne could tighten the exit.

Penalties, Retirements and Classification Notes
Round 12 penalties
- Zane Maloney: served a 10-second stop-and-go penalty.
- Norman Nato: served a 10-second stop-and-go penalty and finished one lap down.
- Edoardo Mortara: received a five-second time penalty, contributing to his 15th-place classification.
- Lucas di Grassi: received a five-second sanction converted into a three-place grid drop for Round 13.
- Nico Mรผller: had lap times deleted for track-limit infringements.
Those penalties matter because Formula E gaps often remain small after Safety Car periods. A five-second addition can move a driver several positions even when the car crosses the line inside a compact group.
Round 13 classification adjustment
Ticktumโs elapsed time was quicker than Gรผntherโs, but a stewardsโ decision imposed a one-position drop. The FIA therefore classified Gรผnther 10th and Ticktum 11th, giving the final point to the DS Penske driver.
Maloney and Evans fail to reach the finish
Maloney completed 22 laps before a suspension failure stopped the Lola and caused the late Full Course Yellow. Evans did not start because Jaguar could not repair a technical issue before the race.
The Evans DNS had the largest championship consequence. He entered Shanghai first in points, scored only four on Saturday and zero on Sunday. Wehrlein scored 40 over the same two races.
Formula E Championship Standings After Shanghai
Shanghai changed the Driversโ Championship leader. Wehrleinโs 28-point Saturday and 12-point Sunday produced a 40-point weekend, lifting him from 27 points behind Evans before the event to nine points ahead afterward.

What the result means for the title fight
Wehrlein now controls the championship but cannot protect the lead conservatively. Four races remain across Tokyo and London, and Evans is only nine points behind. Rowland, da Costa and Dennis are also within 32 points of first, less than the maximum available across one double-header.
Jaguarโs Teamsโ Championship lead is only six points despite Evansโ DNS because da Costaโs Round 12 podium contributed 19 points. Porsche leads the Manufacturersโ Championship by 50 because its powertrain points include customer-team results as well as the factory squad.
The distinction between Teams and Manufacturers is important. Teams score through their two entered cars. Manufacturers aggregate the best eligible results from cars using the same powertrain. The Formula E teams guide explains the grid, while the 2025/26 Formula E schedule tracks the remaining races.
Shanghai converted Wehrlein from a 27-point hunter into a nine-point championship leader, but the final four races still leave five drivers within realistic striking distance.
What Comes Next After Shanghai?
Formula E returns for a Tokyo night-race double-header on July 25 and 26. The season then concludes with two London races. That leaves four opportunities for Wehrlein, Evans, Rowland, da Costa and Dennis to change the championship order.
Tokyo will reward a different compromise from Shanghai. The street circuit offers tighter walls, less runoff and fewer opportunities to recover from contact. Qualifying position will matter, but ATTACK MODE timing and energy saving can still overturn the order.
Di Grassiโs Shanghai win also adds a final-season storyline. The Brazilian has announced that he will leave the championship and retire from professional racing after Season 12. His first victory since 2022 ensures that the closing rounds will carry competitive relevance as well as farewell significance.

Shanghai Formula E 2026 Results FAQ
Conclusion: Shanghai Rewrites the Formula E Title Race
Two races, two strategic masterclasses
Wehrleinโs Saturday victory came from pole, efficiency and perfect PIT BOOST timing. Di Grassiโs Sunday win came from the opposite direction: a rear-grid start, a dry-weather gamble and a final ATTACK MODE saved for the decisive moment.
The latest Shanghai Formula E 2026 race results therefore reward more than outright speed. They show how weather, charging strategy, energy targets and the timing of power boosts can change the order even when every driver uses closely controlled machinery.
Wehrlein leaves China with a nine-point Driversโ Championship lead, Porsche trails Jaguar by only six in the Teamsโ table and leads the Manufacturersโ Championship by 50. Tokyo and London will decide whether Shanghai was the turning point or only the latest swing in an unusually open season.
