GT3 is a set of technical regulations, not a series. A Mercedes-AMG GT3, a Ferrari 296 GT3, a Porsche 911 GT3 R, a BMW M4 GT3 and a Ford Mustang GT3 are all built to broadly the same rulebook, then balanced against each other by Balance of Performance (BoP). Here’s the map of where GT3 cars actually race, and which standings each one produces:

The 2026 GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS is the 13th edition of SRO’s flagship GT3 series. It splits into an Endurance Cup (five longer races including the 24 Hours of Spa) and a Sprint Cup (five weekends of two one-hour races), with points from both combined into the overall championship. Cars are further split into Pro, Gold, Silver and Bronze classes by FIA driver categorisation, so a single weekend produces multiple sets of standings.

Overall Drivers’ Championship — the headline battle

Maro Engel and Lucas Auer lead the overall GTWC Europe Drivers’ Championship in the Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG, with Winward Racing leading the Teams’ Championship. The pairing — joined by Luca Stolz for the endurance rounds — has been the most consistent combination across both cups, and they retained their endurance lead through the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

Sprint Cup Drivers’ Championship — after Magny-Cours

The Sprint Cup fight is the closest of the lot. Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde hold the Team WRT lead, but their advantage collapsed from 14 points to just 2.5 at Magny-Cours after van der Linde lost his Qualifying 2 times and retired from Sunday’s race following contact.

Class championships — Gold, Silver and Bronze

Below the outright fight, each driver-rating class runs its own title race. These matter enormously to the teams involved, because a Gold or Silver Cup title is a career-defining result for a semi-professional driver.

What’s left in the 2026 GTWC Europe season

Four rounds remain, starting with the Sprint Cup weekend at Zandvoort on 18–20 September, then Barcelona, and closing with the Endurance Cup finale at Portimão on 16–18 October. With the Sprint Cup lead down to 2.5 points and the Endurance Cup still live, both cups — and therefore the combined overall title — can still swing.

In the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, GT3 machinery runs in two classes: GTD Pro (all-professional line-ups) and GTD (which requires at least one Bronze or Silver-rated driver). Both use the same cars; the difference is who’s allowed to drive them. IMSA also uses a much larger points scale than European series, so totals in the thousands are normal.

GTD Pro — the professional class

The No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO leads the GTD Pro Teams’ Championship, with BMW leading the GTD Pro Manufacturers’ Championship. The season opened with that same car winning GTD Pro at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the consistency has held since.

In the drivers’ fight, Corvette’s Nicky Catsburg and Tommy Milner have led on points through the middle of the season, with BMW’s Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen and Ford’s Christopher Mies and Frédéric Vervisch stacked up immediately behind — the three crews separated by only around twenty points at Detroit. The most recent GT-only round at Virginia International Raceway went to the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini of Andrea Caldarelli and Sandy Mitchell, their second consecutive win, lifting them to third in the standings and 56 points off the lead.

GTD — the Pro-Am class

The No. 27 Heart of Racing Team leads the GTD Teams’ Championship, with Aston Martin leading the GTD Manufacturers’ Championship. The class opened the year with the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes taking the GTD win at the Rolex 24 — the same Winward organisation currently leading GT World Challenge Europe, which tells you something about how these operations now run global GT3 programmes in parallel.

Since 2024, the FIA World Endurance Championship’s GT category has been LMGT3 — a class built directly on GT3 machinery, with an FIA Endurance Trophy awarded to its drivers and teams. It’s the closest thing GT3 has to a genuine world championship title, contested across eight rounds including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Following the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, TF Sport leads the LMGT3 Teams’ standings, with Nicky Catsburg and Jonny Edgar top of the Drivers’ standings in the No. 33 Corvette. Le Mans is worth double points in WEC, and TF Sport’s 50-point haul there was decisive in flipping the table.

There is no FIA world ranking for GT3 drivers, no ATP-style points list, no single trophy. So the question has to be answered by evidence rather than by decree — and the strongest evidence is a driver leading or contending in more than one top-tier GT3 championship in the same season, against different fields, on different continents.

By that standard, the most compelling case in 2026 belongs to Nicky Catsburg. The Dutchman sits second in the WEC LMGT3 Drivers’ standings in the No. 33 TF Sport Corvette — four points off the class lead — while simultaneously contending at the front of IMSA’s GTD Pro drivers’ fight alongside Tommy Milner in the Corvette. Leading the conversation in both the world championship and the premier North American series in the same year is a genuinely rare double.

Other names with real claims:

• Maro Engel & Lucas Auer — leading the outright GTWC Europe title in the Winward Mercedes, the toughest single GT3 grid in the world
• Charles Weerts & Kelvin van der Linde — Sprint Cup leaders at Team WRT, both multiple-time GTWC champions with deep records in the class
• Ricardo Feller & Bastian Buus — 2.5 points off the Sprint Cup lead in the Lionspeed Porsche
• Andrea Caldarelli — back-to-back IMSA GTD Pro wins with Pfaff, and a long-established Lamborghini factory record

The honest framing: GT3 is deliberately balanced so that no single driver dominates the way an F1 world champion can. BoP compresses car performance, driver categorisation spreads talent across classes, and most titles are shared between two or three co-drivers. Anyone claiming a definitive “world number one” in GT3 is selling a ranking, not reporting one. A lot of people searching for GT3 standings end up looking at Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup results, because the cars are called 911 GT3 Cup. They are not GT3 cars. The 911 GT3 Cup is a one-make series car — every entry is mechanically identical, there is no Balance of Performance because there’s nothing to balance, and the cars cannot race in GT3 championships. “GT3” in that name refers to the road-car model lineage, not the FIA class.

2026 Porsche Supercup standings — after Round 8, Monza

Since people arrive here looking for it, here’s the current top four. Flynt Schuring leads the 2026 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, having converted a strong mid-season run — including the Barcelona and Spa wins — into a commanding advantage.

Schuring, a 19-year-old Dutchman and Porsche Junior, took his first Supercup victory at Barcelona earlier in the season after charging from fifth on the grid, and has since built the lead out past 25 points over the reigning-form Robert de Haan.
